The Houdini

Have you ever wished you’d shot color film but you loaded black and white? Let us introduce you to THE HOUDINI. Our Houdini film allows you to change your mind after the fact. With TCC’s Houdini film stock you can develop in C-41 or B&W chemicals, allowing you to perform your own little magic trick!

One Stock, Endless possibilities!

The Houdini started out as a print film for news gathering sites in the 90’s. The whole idea of this film stock was to allow news stations to develop in any chemical so their stories could get on air quicker.

You will notice the circular holes in the emulsion which is a by-product of our friend Skelly-Dini’s magic. We are just kidding, of course, these holes were used for automated systems to cut and program the film after it was processed. The holes wouldn’t be seen at 24 frames per second, but they will be seen on your images. Part of the magic of Celluloid.

Fast forward 30 years and The Houdini is here for artists that love to experiment and enjoy being in the moment. Most importantly, Houdini allows you to change your mind and develop how you wish. If you want a clean ISO6 black and white image, then put it in your favorite B&W developer. Decide you want color, drop it in some C-41. Our favorite way is to develop half in one and half in the other. Who knows what you will get….

Enjoy the magic of celluloid with “THE HOUDINI”!

abracadabra!

Stock Info

  • ISO 6

The Houdini is ISO 6, allowing you to shoot in direct sunlight with no ND filter. The low iso also allows a crystal clear image with small grain. The film stock can be pushed and pulled which will result in changes to the colors and grain structure.

This film stock is from our vintage collection of frozen expired films. The sample images above were rated at ISO 6.

  • Black & White \ Color

Its up to you! The Houdini can be processed in C-41 which leads to a kaleidoscope of colors or you can develop in Black and White for a perfectly contrasted monochrome image.

Follow your basic C-41 and Black and White development for ISO 6 film. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out.

This film stock is hand-rolled from bulk motion picture film. The remjet has been removed.

  • Magic Spots

Skelly-Dini got a little out of control and burned some holes through the film. What a small sacrifice to be able to develop however you wish.

While we love the extra character, if you wish to remove the magic spots we have had success with a little clone stamp in your favorite photo editing software.
