Eterna 500T - 35mm Vintage Color Motion Picture Film

Specifications:

  • Film Type: Eterna 500T 8573 Vintage Color Motion Picture Film (Year 2005)

  • Format: 35mm, hand-rolled into recycled cartridges

  • Exposure: 1 Roll / 36 Exposures

  • ISO: 500 (Recommend rating at 200-160 ISO)

  • Balance: Tungsten (3200K)

  • Processing: ECN-2

Product Overview: Eterna 500T is a highly regarded vintage motion picture film known for its ultra-fine grain structure, outstanding pastel colors, natural skin tones, and extended latitude. This film excels in capturing detail in both shadows and highlights, making it incredibly versatile for shooting in various lighting conditions, from low light to bright daylight. The quality and rarity of this discontinued film stock make it highly sought after.

Important Details:

  • Manual ISO Setting: These rolls do not have a DX code, so you'll need to manually set the ISO on your camera for proper light metering, or use a handheld light meter. Given the film's age, we recommend rating it at 200-160 ISO to achieve the best results.

  • Processing Notice: This film includes a RemJet backing and CANNOT be processed at standard commercial labs. It requires ECN-2 processing, which can be done at specialized labs or at home using kits like the FFP ECN-2 Dev Kit or Cinestill ECN-2 Dev Kit.

Additional Information: This batch of Eterna 500T 8573 is from 2005 and has been well-preserved over the years, and the sample images shown are from this exact batch. Despite its age, this film continues to deliver exceptional results, but for the healthiest negatives, we recommend the lower ISO rating.

Why can't I process this film at my favorite C-41 lab?

Kodak’s color motion picture films, like this one, can technically be cross-processed in C-41 chemicals. However, these films include a layer called "RemJet," which can ruin the equipment at commercial labs not equipped to handle it. Unless the lab specifically states they process ECN-2 film, DO NOT bring this film to a standard C-41 lab. The RemJet layer will severely damage their machines!

Which commercial labs in NYC will process my Kodak motion picture film?

We recommend the following labs in NYC:

  • Photodom

  • Midwest Film Co.

  • NYC Film Lab

How can I process this film at home?

You can process this film at home using an ECN-2 development kit. We recommend the kit from the Film Photography Project. It’s easy to mix the chemicals and comes with step-by-step instructions.

Additional Home Processing Step:

After completing the standard development steps, rinse your film in a half bucket of hot water (80-102°F). Gently rub the non-emulsion side to remove any remaining RemJet, being careful not to scratch the emulsion side. Rinse under running water until all the RemJet is gone, then hang your film to dry. Enjoy your results!
